Herrin- Henry Lee “Hank” Mallow, Jr., 81, of Herrin, passed away at 12:36 AM, Tuesday, February 17, 2015 at West Side Care Center in West Frankfort.
Hank was born on June 10, 1933 in Palmer, Missouri to Henry Lee and Nellie (Scott) Mallow, Sr. He grew up on a cattle farm on the beautiful Missouri countryside and from there he learned to be tenacious and caring. Hank was a US Navy veteran who served his country during the Korean Conflict. Once honorably discharged, he began a long career as a civil engineer with the Illinois Department of Transportation. Hank was a graduate of the Missouri School of Mines.
He was an adventurous man with a great sense of humor. He enjoyed spending time outdoors gardening vegetables and various flowers and shrubs; he once owned a peach orchard. He also enjoyed travelling to various locations, especially Branson.

Daughter- Dana Zahraee and husband Ali of Naperville

Kevin Zahraee and wife Alyssa of Downers Grove
Justin Zahraee of Deerfield
Special friend- Peggy Jean Smoot of Marion
He was preceded in death by his parents, former wife- Carolene and sister- Norma Jean Richards.
The funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM, Friday, February 20, 2015 at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin with Rev. John Yeo officiating. Burial will follow at Herrin City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 PM – 8:00 PM, Thursday, February 19, 2015 at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin.
