Alice F. Garris

Marion—Alice F. Garris, 74, of Marion, passed away at 7:50 AM on Saturday, April 13, 2013 at home.  Alice was born on August 19, 1938 in Trenton, Tennessee to James Richard and Juanita Jewel (Jones) McNeely. She married Carl Garris on August 16, 1953 in Chicago. He survives in Marion.  Alice was of Protestant faith and was a homemaker. She was a strong, independent person who loved her family, children, and grandchildren above all else.  Survivors include—Husband—Carl Garris of Marion; Son—Carl and Pamela Garris, Jr. of Herrin; Daughter—Brenda & Roger Treece of Benton; Daughter—Mary Ruth Tolbert of Pittsburg; Daughter—Rita Lovett of Marion; Daughter—Patricia and William David Hadfield of Marion; Daughter—Dianna and Harry Tippy of Marion; Son—Billy Joe and Jessica Garris of Johnston City; Daughter—Jennifer and Kevin Petty of Goreville; Daughter—Elizabeth and William Meneese of Marion; Brother—Richard McNeely of Marion; Sister—Louise Hood of North Carolina; Sister—Pearl Stephenson and JR of Georgia; Sister—Jewel and Bill Whitlock  of Marion; Twenty-Two Grandchildren; Thirty-One Great-Grandchildren; One Great-Great-Grandchild; Several Nieces and Nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents; two grandchildren; one sister; one brother; one son-in-law.  The funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM, Tuesday, April 16, 2013 at Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home in Marion. Rev. Don Colson will officiate. Burial will follow at Maplewood Cemetery in Marion. Visitation will be from 11-1:00 PM, Tuesday, April 16, 2013, at Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home in Marion.
