Alice L. Mays

Herrin- ALICE L. MAYS, age 88, of Herrin, passed away at 10:18pm on Thursday, May 1, 2008 at Shawnee Christian Nursing Center in Herrin. Alice was born in Reynoldsville, IL in Union County on January 9, 1920, the daughter of Jess M. and Mary Jane (Orr) Switzer. She married Everett S. Mays in Marion on February 4, 1948. They shared forty-four years of marriage until his death on April 10, 1992. Mrs. Mays was a homemaker. She was a member of the Herrin Eagles and the Herrin American Legion Auxiliary. Survivors include: One sister- Linda Dew of Vandalia, IL One brother- Lloyd and Zelma Marie Switzer of Herrin, IL Several nieces and nephews She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband- Everett; three sisters- Judy Mays, Mae Parola, and Grace Kelly; and six brothers-Raymond, Floyd, Cecil, David, Hubert, and Lawrence Switzer. Funeral services will be held at 3:00pm on Monday, May 5, 2008 at Johnson- Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin, with Rev. Ralph Brandon officiating. Burial will follow at Herrin City Cemetery.
