Herrin- Alma Willis, 91, of Herrin, passed away at 7:15 AM, Friday, January 23, 2004 at Heartland Regional Medical Center in Marion. Alma was born on March 4, 1912 in Doe Run, MO to Frederick & Sarrah (Hulsey) Yates. She married Walter Harry Willis on December 26, 1929 in Granite City, IL. He preceded her in death on September 27, 1989. Mrs. Willis was a cook at Sunnyside School and formerly for Bob Brewer at the Family Fun Restaurant in Herrin. She was a member of the Second Baptist Church in Herrin. Alma enjoyed cooking and her family was especially fond of her Chicken & Dumplings and strawberry pies. She was a caregiver and will be dearly missed by her friends and family. SURVIVORS: Son & daughter in law- Vernon & Sue Willis- Pleasant Hope, MO Daughter & son in law- Charlotte & James Farley- Herrin Daughter & son in law- Pamela & Carl Garris- Herrin Eleven Grandchildren & spouses: Michael Willis & Julie- St. Louis Brian Willis & Vicki- Desoto, IL Paul Willis- Houston, TX Cindy May & Jeff- Mt. Vernon, IL Teri Steelman & Kenny- Herrin Christal Hillard & Lee- Independence, MO Carl CJ Garris & Jennifer- Herrin James Willis & Susan- Herrin Pamela Hoffman- Herrin Melvin Collins & Judy- Portage, WI Linda Wallace & Bob- Clearwater, FL Nineteen Great Grandchildren One Great Great Grandchild Many nieces & nephews and great nieces & nephews Many close friends, too numerous to mention She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son; Eugene Willis, one stillborn son, one brother, and two sisters. The funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM, Tuesday, January 27, 2004 at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin. Rev. Brad Harlow will officiate. Burial will follow at Ebenezer Cemetery in Rileyville. Visitation will be from 11AM until time of service Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorial donations are suggested the Second Baptist Church or Hospice of Southern Illinois and will be accepted at the funeral home.
