Herrin - Amos Newlin, Jr., 79, died at 3:45 p.m. on Sunday, April 27, 2003 at his home.
Mr. Newlin was born July 2, 1923 in Marion, IL to Amos and Winnie (Booth) Newlin, Sr.
He was married to Betty Mitchell in 1953 in Murphysboro, IL, She died in September,
1964.
He was a salesman for Curt Smith Sporting Good's in Belleville, IL. He was a member of Herrin First Presbyterian Church. He was a veteran of the U. S. Army in WW II. He was a member of the Illinois State Basketball Hall of Fame.

His parents, wife and one daughter Teri McKinney and two brothers Woodrow and Ralph Newlin preceded him in death.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 30, 2003 at Johnson Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin. Rev. Michael Neubert will officiate. Visitation will be Tuesday from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Johnson Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin. Burial will be at East Lawn Memorial Gardens in Energy with Military Rites by the Herrin VFW and American Legion.
