Marion Amos Strobel, 85, of Marion, passed away on Monday, May 3, 2010 at 9:16 P.M. at Herrin Hospital. Amos was born April 14, 1925 in Marion the son of Amos O. & Mayme (Watkins) Strobel. He married Helen Wallace on November 7, 1948 in Harrisburg and together they were blessed with over 59 years of marriage until her death on April 27, 2008. He was a WWII veteran, proudly serving his country in the U.S. Coast Guard. Amos was the owner of Strobel Coal Company and had been a farmer for over 40 years. He was Chairman of the Board and Charter Member of The Peoples Bank of Marion. He was a 32nd Degree Mason and Shriner. He had returned to Marion in July of 2008 after living in Sebring, Florida since 1995. He loved flying airplanes, riding motorcycles and playing golf. He especially loved watching his grandson and great grandsons play golf, baseball, soccer and shopping with his granddaughter Kellie. He is survived by; Sons; Stephen L. Strobel of Winter Garden, Florida Lynn O. Strobel and wife Penny of Marion Daughter Pamela Suzanne Suzie Gentry and husband Doug of Avon Park, Florida Five Grandchildren Eleven Great Grandchildren Four Sisters; Ruth Cox of St. Louis, Missouri Evelyn Moore of Marion Ann Strobel of Marion Wanda Mitchell of Marion Funeral services will be Friday, May 7, 2010 at 2 P.M. at Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home with Rev. Tim Goodman officiating. Masonic services will be presented at 2 P.M. by members of the Marion Fellowship Lodge #89 A. F. & A. M. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery with military rites presented by Marions VFW Post #1301, American Legion Post #147 and National Guard Flag Detail Unit. Visitation will be Friday from 1 P.M. until the time of service at the funeral home. For those who prefer memorials may be made to the Shriners Childrens Hospital. Envelopes will be available and accepted at Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home, 800 North Market Street, Marion, IL 62959.
