Marion Amoze B. Sims, a lifelong resident of Williamson County, passed away at home on Wednesday, February 17, 2010 at 9:28 P.M. She was born to Ernest and Edith (Dunaway) Tanner on August 28, 1909 and recently celebrated her 100th birthday. Amoze was married to Omer H. Sims and they shared 58 years of marriage before he passed away on December 22, 1991. Amoze was a graduate of Southern Illinois University and taught school throughout rural Williamson County and Marion for 32 years. She is a life member of the National Educational Association, Illinois Retired Teachers Association, Marion Education Association, Marion Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, and Past President and member of the Marion Business and Professional Womens Club. Amoze became a Christian and joined Indian Camp Baptist Church in 1920. She taught young adult Sunday School classes and became a member of Marion Third Baptist Church in 1948 until her death. Amoze was a devout Christian who studied her bible daily and was an avid reader. She is survived by her son Jerald Sims and wife Linda of Harrisburg, two grandsons Jay Sims and wife Cindy and Jeff Sims, great granddaughter Krystle Wollard and husband Brendan and three great grandchildren, step-grandchildren Lindsey Devar and Marc Devar and wife Carolyn. A sister Manda Turner and nieces, Linna Sue & Bill Dungey, Lou Eva & Jimmy Minton as well as great-niece Pam & Jack Smothers and great-nephew Eddie Minton. Special friends and caregivers who loved Amoze like family are Buddy and Barbara Brimm and Mary Edwards. Amoze was preceded in death by her Parents, husband, Omer H., sisters, Anna Killman and Zella Mae Manier and brother, Ephrain Tanner. Funeral services will be Sunday February 21, 2010 at 2 P.M. at Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home in Marion with Pastor Scott Kallem officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday from Noon until the time of service at the funeral home. For those who prefer memorials may be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois.
