Angelo Garavalia

Herrin- Angelo Garavalia, 95, of Herrin, died at, 6:35 AM, Saturday, November 29, 2003 at Shawnee Christian Nursing Home in Herrin. Angelo was born on December 1, 1907 in Herrin to John P. & Rose (Pessina) Garavalia. He married Wilma Runion on April 1, 1930 in Pinckneyville, IL. She preceded him in death on February 24, 2003. He worked as a coal miner for Zeigler Coal Company for thirty one years prior to his retirement. Mr. Garavalia was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church in Herrin and the United MineWorkers of America. Survivors: Son & dau in law- J. C. & Carol Garavalia- Carbondale Grandson- Brian Garavalia & wife Linda- Overland Park Sister in law-Lila Lee Woehlke- Carbondale He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, grandson; Marc Garavalia, daughter in law; Carolyn Garavalia, sister; Mary Carnaghi, and three brothers; Tony, Louis & Joseph Garavalia. The funeral service will be held at 1:30 PM, Monday, December 1, 2003 at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin. Monsignor Ken Schaefer will officiate. Burial will follow at San Carlo Cemetery in Herrin. Visitation will be from 12:30 PM until time of service Monday at the funeral home.
