Anita Sue Stotlar, age 77, of Marion, Illinois, passed away Friday, June 21, 2024 at Heartland Regional Medical Center in Marion, Illinois.

Anita was born April 08, 1947 in Herrin, Illinois, a daughter of Thomas and Betty (Harris) Phalp. Anita grew up in Marion and graduated top her class, Marion High School class of 1965. She studied at SIU earning a Bachelors Degree in Education in 1969. She married the love of her life, Richard L. Stotlar on October 06, 1968 in Marion, IL. Anita worked as a teacher in Marion Unit #2 as an Elementary Teacher and later in her career taught Reading Recovery prior to her retirement with 20 plus years service. She donated many hours to her church, Aldersgate Global Methodist Church, and volunteered at the Marion Ministerial Alliance Soup Kitchen. Anita enjoyed playing golf, ballroom dancing, gardening, traveling with her husband, playing Bunko, baking, painting and sharing with her friends in Book Club. Anita loved her family and children in general, her grandchildren, her students and church family.

She is survived by her husband Richard L. Stotlar of Marion, IL; daughter, Lynn E. Stotlar of Phoenix, AZ; daughter-in-law Skyla L. Stotlar of Marion, IL; three grandchildren, Ashton N. (Corbin) McReaken, Amelia G. Stotlar, and Karsten R. Stotlar; one sister, Donna Phalp of Ballwin, MO and sister-in-law Kathy Phalp of Hampshire, IL. She is preceded in death by her son, Brian W. "Bud" Stotlar; her parents, Thomas and Betty Phalp; and two brothers, Thomas Phalp and Joe Phalp.

Visitation will be Thursday, June 27th, 2024 from 4:00 PM - 7:00 PM at the Mitchell Hughes Funeral Home. Visitation will continue on Friday, June 28, 2024 at the funeral home from 10:00AM - 11:00AM. Memorial services will be held Friday, June 28, 2024, 11:00 AM at Mitchell Hughes Funeral Home with Rev. David Kruger officiating. Burial will be private in Rose Hill Cemetery in Marion.

Memorial contributions may be directed to Make A Wish Foundation or The Lighthouse Shelter. Envelopes will be available and accepted at Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home, 800 North Market Street, Marion, IL 62959.
