Marion- Ardith I. Spiller, age 94, a resident of Valparaiso, Indiana and formerly of Marion, passed away at 3:35pm on Thursday, December 17, 2009.
She was born on February 25, 1915 in Marion, Illinois the daughter of William A. and Mamie (Benedict) Owens. Ardith was married to Laverne Spiller on April 1, 1933 in Harrisburg, Illinois. Ardith was a past member of the Over 55ers, was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church, an active member of the Emmanuel Choir for over 40 years, and loved her 90th birthday party celebrated by her friends from church. Ardith loved to sew, making dolls, knitting afghans, she did tollhouse painting, and was very skilled at crafts with her hands. She was a wonderful wife, mother, and friend to all.
Ardith is survived by her loving son Terry Spiller, Valparaiso, numerous nieces and nephews, and other loving family and dear friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband of 49 years Laverne Spiller who passed in 1982, her sisters Edith Young, Opal Ashoff, and Pauline Bratten.
A visitation will be held from 10:00 am to 11:00 am on Wednesday, December 23, 2009 at Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home, 800 North Market Street, Marion, Illinois, with a funeral service at 11:00 am at the funeral home. Burial will be at the Oddfellows Cemetery in Marion. Memorials in Ardiths memory may be made to Emmanuel Baptist Church, or the V.N.A. Hospice, or for Alzheimers Research, or the American Cancer Society. Envelopes will be available and accepted at Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home.
