Arthur Craig "Art" Disney

Arthur Craig “Art” Disney passed away peacefully with his wife and daughter at his side at their home in Marion, Illinois , at 10:17 pm on Saturday, July 9, 2016. He was born on March 24, 1924 in Muddy, Illinois to Charles V. and Rosa Lee (Mahaffey) Disney. Arthur graduated from Harrisburg Township High School in 1942 and enlisted in the Seabees. He was then employed by Sahara Coal Company where he worked for 47 years, retiring in 1989 as a coal stripping shovel operator. On March 16, 1946, he married Dorothy Jean Greeney. They were blessed to celebrate 70 years of marriage on March 16, 2016. Arthur was preceded in death by his parents, Dorothy’s parents Ralph and Estel Greeney, brother Virgil V. Disney and wife Jo, and nephew David Disney. He is survived by his wife, daughter Sharon Disney, niece Pam (Paul) Swanson and nephew Tom Disney. Arthur was a Christian who was a member of Marion Aldersgate United Methodist Church, where he enjoyed singing in the choir and attending the Overcomers Sunday School Class. Art also loved to travel, especially to Gatlinburg, Tennessee, with his family and friends. He was also a member of Harrisburg Masonic Lodge 325, Scottish Rite, and Ainad Shriners. Services for Arthur Disney will be held at 1:00 pm on Wednesday, July 13, in Aldersgate United Methodist Church, with Revs. Jim Slone and Tim Ozment officiating. Visitation will be from 11:00 am until funeral time. Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements. Memorials are suggested for Marion Aldersgate United Methodist Church or Shriners Hospital for Children. Envelopes will be available the day of the service at the church or by mail to Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home, 800 North Market Street, Marion, Illinois 62959.
