HERRIN- Attilio Red Calcaterra, 93, of Herrin, passed away at his residence at 7:55am on Tuesday, October 4, 2005. Attilio was born on May 25, 1912 in Herrin to Angelo and Jennie (Rogers) Calcaterra. He married Grace (Moroni) in Herrin on May 4, 1944. She survives in Herrin. Mr Calcaterra was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church in Herrin. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and a former member of the American Legion as well as a World War II Navy Veteran. Attilio was retired from Zwick and Goldsmith Mens Clothing store in Herrin. Survivors include- Wife- Grace Calcaterra- Herrin, IL 1 son- Dennis and Ruth Calcaterra- Vandalia, MO 1 grand daughter- Kathryn Calcaterra- New York City, NY 3 sisters-in-law- Mary Thomas- Johnson City, IL Eva and DeLoyd Litton- Carbondale, IL Edith and Richard Leck- Johnson City, IL Preceded in death by- his parents One infant brother- Paul Calcaterra A funeral mass will be held 11:00am Friday October 7, 2005 at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin with Monsignor Ken Schaefer officiating. Burial will follow at San Carlo Cemetery in Herrin with military rites performed by the Herrin VFW and American Legion. Visitation will be held from 6-8pm on Thursday October 6, 2005 at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home with a prayer service being held at 6pm. Memorial donations may be made to the OLMC Renovation Fund and will be accepted at the funeral home.
