Johnston City- Avis Louise Cullum, 89, of Herrin, formerly of Johnston City, passed away at 3:05 AM, Saturday, November 22, 2014 at Hurricane Creek Living Center in Herrin.
Avis was born on November 8, 1925 in Sparta to Everett J. and Clara O. (Earl) Jennings, Sr. She married Claude Cullum, Jr. on January 2, 1942. He preceded her in death on May 25, 2000.
She was retired after having worked many years on the garment line of Smoller Brothers in Herrin and later as the bookkeeper for her husband at Cullum Refrigeration. She was a member of the First Church of God in Herrin and volunteered her time with various ladies groups associated with the church.
In her spare time, she enjoyed quilting and crocheting and cooking and baking various dishes, especially chicken and dumplins. She also enjoyed travelling with her sisters and family to various locations throughout the United States and out at the family farm in Crab Orchard. She will be dearly missed by those who knew and loved her.

Son- Michael Cullum Sr. and wife Renae of Creal Springs
Son- David B. Cullum and wife Karen of Johnston City

Several nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews and cousins
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, grandchild- Nancy Michelle Cullum, great granddaughter- Leslie Cullum and great grandson- Noah Michael Lee Williford and nine brothers and sisters.
The funeral service will be at 11:00 AM, Tuesday, November 25, 2014 at Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home in Marion. Pastor Dan Smith will officiate. Burial will follow at Freedom Cemetery south of Marion. Visitation will be from 5-8:00 PM, Monday, November 24, 2014 at Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home in Marion.
