Herrin- Beatrice Durbin Matthews, 102, a resident of Herrin since 1938, passed
away at 2:05 PM, Sunday, September 25, 2005 at Herrin Hospital.
She was born Sevilla Beatrice Durbin, November 11, 1902 in Bowling Green, KY
to Joseph L. & Lilly Vance Durbin. She married Walter Matthews on October 10,
1932 in Bowling Green and, together, they shared more than 50 wonderful years
of marriage. He preceded her in death on August 7, 1987.
Mrs. Matthews was a homemaker and a member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic
Church in Herrin.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two brothers; Joseph
Leo Joe & Stephen Arthur Durbin, and two sisters; Mary Patricia Pat Nusz &
Irene Elizabeth Nena Durbin.
A funeral mass will be held at 11:00 AM, Thursday, September 29, 2005 at
Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin. Mrs. Matthews great nephew, Father
Patrick Reynolds, will officiate. Burial will follow at San Carlo Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 6-8:30 PM, Wednesday, September 28, 2005 at the
funeral home. A prayer service will be recited at the funeral home on
Thursday at 5:30 PM, by Monsignor Ken Schaefer.
