Ben George, Jr.

Ben George Jr., age 94, of Carterville, Illinois, passed away Sunday, April 10, 2022 at his home in Carterville, surrounded by his loving family.

Ben was born October 21, 1927 in Williamson County, Illinois, a son of Benjamin and Mamie (Murphy) George. He married the love of his life, Wanda Marie (Myers) George on March 12, 1948 in Piggott, Arkansas. She preceded him in death. He proudly served in the United States Army. Ben lived his life as a jack of all trades; including coal miner, carpenter, mechanic, fisherman, and even as a cook in the Army.

He is survived by six children, Charletta (Bob) Beaver, Robert E. (Charlin) George, Pat (Tom) Wood, Chuck (Brenda) George, Jimmy (Robin) George, and Danny (Jean Linders) George and his seven grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren, six great great grandchildren, and several nieces. He is preceded in death by his spouse Wanda Marie (Myers) George; his parents, Mamie (Murphy) and Benjamin George; and five siblings, Jim George, Donald George, Nellie Robinson, Genevieve Chamness, and Dorothy Talley.

Visitation will be Thursday, April 14th, 2022 from 11:00 AM - 1:00 PM at the funeral home. Funeral Service will be held Thursday, April 14, 2022, 1:00 PM at Johnson Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin with Rev. R.H. Chitwood officiating. Burial will follow at Herrin City Cemetery with military honors presented.
