Benny Joe Murphy

Benny Joe Murphy, age 62, of Hurst, Illinois, passed away Saturday, May 27, 2023 at Herrin Hospital in Herrin, Illinois.

Benny was born September 04, 1960 in Marion, Illinois, a son of Orville and Martha Eileen (Purcell) Murphy. He married the love of his life, Caroline (Thomas) Murphy. She survives.

He is survived by his spouse Caroline (Thomas) Murphy of Hurst, IL; six children, Cory (Tobi) Murphy, Timmy (Kelsey Robinson) Phillips, Jimmy (Tabitha) Phillips, Jason Murphy, Rae Anne (Roger) Walters, and Kae Ley (Timothy) Sanford; one sister, Tammy Murphy; twenty-five Grandchildren, One Great Grandchild, Father in law and Mother in law Roger and Ruth Thomas.

He is preceded in death by one son, Benny Joe Murphy, Jr.; his parents, Martha Eileen (Purcell) and Orville Murphy; one sister, Tina Atkins; and four Grandchildren.

As per his wishes, cremation rites will be accorded and no services will be held at this time. Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home in Marion is assisting the family with final arrangements.
