Herrin-Bernard Bernie E. Chapman, 71, passed away at 2:22 A.M., Monday, May 23, 2005 at his residence. He was born August 14, 1933 in Wayne City, Illinois to N.J. & Louella (Talbert) Chapman. He married Mabel Davis on September 5, 1953 at the Mulkeytown Christian Church. Mabel survives. He was retired accountant from Gray, Hunter & Stenn in Marion. He received his Bachelors of Science in accounting from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale. After retirement he did volunteer work at the Williamson County States Attorneys office. He was a member of the West Frankfort Christian Church where he co-taught the 20th Century Class. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinal fan and loved to play pool. He enjoyed watching his oldest grandson Zach play baseball, basketball and football and enjoyed when the other grandchildren came to visit during their school vacations. Survivors Include: Wife: Mabel Chapman of Herrin Two Sons & Daughter-In-Laws: Bernie & Sandra Chapman of Elmhurst, IL. Paul & Rachel Chapman of Lombard, IL. Two Daughters & Son-In-Laws: Melody & Paul Hale of Doylestown, PA. Robyn & Philip Hicks of Mulkeytown, IL. Seven Grandchildren: Zachary Hicks, Max & Emma Hale, Alex, Jenny, Dylan & Amanda Chapman Mother: Louella Newby of Wayne City, IL. He was preceded in death by his father, one infant daughter, Kimberly Chapman and one infant granddaughter, Maggie Hicks. Private Graveside services will be 11:00 A.M., Wednesday, May 25th, 2005 at the Mulkeytown Cemetery with Gene Fox officiating. Those attending are asked to go directly to the cemetery on Wednesday. Visitation will be 6:00 to 9:00 P.M. on Tuesday, May, 24th at the Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the West Frankfort Christian Church, Southern Illinois Christian Service Camp or to Hospice of Southern Illinois.
