Bert G. Fowler

Herrin- Bert G. Fowler, 75, of Herrin, died at 1:40 PM, Tuesday, December 30, 2003 at Fountain Nursing Home in Marion. Bert was born on May 13, 1928 in Verona, IL to Howard K. & Marie (Murphy) Fowler. He married Vera Welch on July 22, 1949 in Hurst. She survives of Herrin. Mr. Fowler was a veteran of the US Army, having served his country during the US occupation of Japan and the Korean Conflict. He retired from General Telephone after working forty-two years as a switching technician. He was a member of Herrin First Baptist Church, Herrin American Legion Post #645 and Herrin BPOE #1146. SURVIVORS: Wife- Vera Fowler- Herrin Three Sisters: Betty & husband Raymond T. Ellis- Pittsburg Susan & husband Bob Young- Cedar Grove, TN Nancy & husband Don Clark- Lehigh Acres, FL A host of wonderful nieces, nephews, cousins and friends His parents preceded him in death. The funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM, Saturday, January 3, 2004 at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin. Elder Raymond T. Ellis will officiate. Burial will follow at Blairsville Cemetery in Blairsville. Military rites will be performed at the graveside by the Herrin VFW & American Legion Posts. Visitation will be from 11AM until time of service Saturday at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to Elks Crippled Childrens Fund or Hospice of Southern Illinois and will be accepted at the funeral home.
