Bessie M. Osborne

Marion- BESSIE M. OSBORNE, age 92, of Marion, passed away at 11:05am on Monday, August 9, 2010 at Heartland Regional Medical Center. Bessie was born in Johnston City on September 26, 1917, the daughter of Albert and Eva (Sutton) McMullen. She married James B. Osborne in Jonesboro on January 4, 1936. He preceded her in death on July 5, 1984. Mrs. Osborne was a member of the Arnoldview Baptist Church in Marion for more than forty years. She was employed by Sangamo Electric for fourteen years, treasurer of the Machinist Union for seven years, and one year at Universal Match. Bessie retired from the Olin Corp after fifteen years of service. She also worked as a cashier at the Marion Thrift Shop. She was a member of the Marion Memorial Hospital Auxiliary since 1976, the Marion Senior Citizen Club, the Senior Circle, Lifetime member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary, a volunteer at the VA Hospital, and delivered Meals on Wheels for eight years. Bessie was a member of the Merry Music Makers kitchen band for many years and also served as the treasurer of the band for eight years. Bessie was an avid reader. She enjoyed feeding and watching birds and loved taking photos of her family and friends. Survivors include her daughter- Beverly DeBenedictis and husband Bob of Boone, NC Daughter- Judy Martin of Louisville, KY Son- James B. Osborne Jr. and wife Connie of Avon Park, FL 5 Grandchildren- Rick Martin of Louisville, KY Mike martin of Louisville, KY Brian Martin of Orlando, FL David Osborne of Avon Park, FL Chris and Amanda Osborne of Marion, IL 7 great grandchildren 3 great great grandchildren Brother- Bob McMullen of Dayton, Ohio Several nieces, nephews, cousins, good neighbors and many friends She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, three sisters- Winifred Simmons, Betty Emert and Thelma West, and two brothers- John and Larry McMullen. Funeral services will be held at 11am on Thursday, August 12, 2010 at Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home in Marion with Rev. Ivan Ryan officiating. Burial will follow at Maplewood Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 9-11am on Thursday, August 12, 2010 at Mitchell-Hughes.
