Herrin- Bettie E. Smith, age 90, of Herrin, passed away at 1:05pm on Wednesday, March 19, 2014 at her home in Herrin.
Born Beatrice Elizabeth Davies on January 4, 1924 in Herrin, Bettie was the daughter of David “Dye” and Beatrice Elizabeth (Hanson) Davies. She married Edward Smith in Perryville, Missouri on December 7, 1941. He preceded her in death on December 19, 1992.
Bettie worked at Maytag (Norge) in Herrin for 38 years. She was an avid bowler, winning many awards and trophies. She loved spending time with her bowling family each week. Bettie enjoyed working with the flowers in her yard, and loved the help received from her great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, grandson- Paul Penninger, two brothers- Archie and Horace Davies, daughter-in-law- Angela Smith, and one son-in-law- Robert (Bob) Penninger.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00am on Saturday, March 22, 2014 at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin with Rev. Ralph Brandon officiating. Burial will follow at Egyptian Memorial Gardens in Energy. Visitation will be held from 5-8pm on Friday, March 21, 2014 at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin.
