Herrin- Betty Elaine Hazel, 79, of Herrin, passed away at 12:20 AM, Saturday, August 15, 2009 at her home. Betty was born on April 19, 1930 in Herrin to Jesse & Arlene (Burlison) Bird. She married Wayne Calvin Hazel on October 18, 1947 in Herrin. He preceded her in death on May 22, 1985. Betty was a homemaker and enjoyed traveling with friends and family to various places like Las Vegas and the Grand Canyon. She liked to go to the movies with her daughters and will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her. Survivors include- Son- Mark Hazel and wife Vicki of Tunnel Hill Daughter- Gail Wilkie and husband Robert of Herrin Daughter- Carol Ansinelli and husband Rusty of Herrin Four Grandchildren: Colette Calvert of Tunnel Hill Bradi Havens and husband Robert of Murphysboro Ryan Bandera of West Frankfort Jarid Wilkie of Herrin Seven Great Grandchildren: Cory Bandera of Herrin Kristyn Breault of Herrin Katelyn Bandera of Herrin Caden Bandera of Herrin Hunter Havens of Murphysboro Hayli Havens of Murphysboro Layne Wilkie of Johnston City Brother- Lindell Bird and wife Angie of Carterville Brother- Jesse Bird of Ferges Several nieces & nephews She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and three brothers- Dean, Don & Millard Bird. The funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM, Tuesday, August 18, 2009 at Herrin City Cemetery. Rev. Don Colson will officiate. Burial will follow at Herrin City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1-2:00 PM, Tuesday, August 18, 2009 at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin. Memorial donations are suggested to the Kidney Foundation and will be accepted at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home/ 201 S. 13th St/ Herrin, IL 62948.
