Betty Jo Meracle

Herrin- Betty Jo Meracle, 89, of Herrin, passed away at 6:40 AM, Friday, April 9, 2010 at Parkway Manor in Marion. Betty was born on March 10, 1921 in Herrin to Homer & Ruth (Wollard) Steger. She married Edward Meracle, Sr. on November 2, 1961 in Herrin. He preceded her in death on June 20, 1999. Mrs. Meracle formerly owned and operated Park Avenue Cleaners in Herrin and worked for CIPS, but retired from the Herrin Water Department after many years. She was a member of Bryan St. Baptist Church in Herrin. Survivors include- Step Daughter- Judy Dixon & husband Earl of DeSoto Step Son- Earl Meracle, Jr & wife Gayla of West Frankfort Grandchild- Lorrie Cox & husband Dwayne of Comway, AR Grandchild- Christy Boggess & husband Bruce of Carterville Grandchild- Dale Meracle & wife Jodie of St. Louis, MO Grandchild- Traci Summers of Tulsa, OK Great Grandchildren- Nicholas, Ashley, Christian & Brittni Great Grandchildren- Tomi, Chelsey, Blake, Bryce & Victoria She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and one sister- Juanita Marie Steger. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM, Monday, April 12, 2010 at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin. Rev. Duane Faulkenberry will officiate. Burial will follow at Herrin City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-8:00 PM, Sunday, April 11, 2010 at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin.
