Herrin- After several brave battles with cancer and strokes, BETTY JO STEVENS, age 76, of Herrin, passed away peacefully at 3:40pm on Tuesday, August 15, 2006 at Heartland Regional Medical Center in Marion surrounded by her loving family. Betty was born on September 24, 1929 in Mexico, MO to Josephine (Bailey) Conner and Frank Younger and was raised in Hannibal, MO. She married Aline Steve Stevens in Greenville, NC on May 24, 1951 and together they shared 55 years of marriage. Aline survives in Herrin. Survivors include- Husband- Aline Stevens- Herrin, IL Son- Jim Stevens- Energy, IL Daughter and Son-In-Law- Rhonda and Scot Pagano- West Palm Beach, FL Daughter and Son-In-Law- Debbe and Craig Young- Overland Park, KS Son and Daughter-In-Law-Doug and Leanne Stevens- Herrin, IL Eleven Grandchildren Five Step-Grandchildren Thirteen Great Grandchildren One Brother- George Younger- Anaheim, CA Sister- Dorothy Depew- Carterville, IL Sister- Sharon Tyler- Andersen, CA Several nieces and nephews Mrs. Stevens was preceded in death by her parents. Betty Jo loved and lived for her family, all of whom will miss her very much. She greatly enjoyed walking, bird watching, and her two affectionate cats. As per Bettys wishes, her body will be cremated. A memorial service will be held at 11:00am on Saturday, August 19, 2006 at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin with Rev. Don Colson officiating. Inurnment will follow at Eastlawn Memorial Gardens. A visitation will be held from 9-11am on Saturday, August 19, 2006 at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorial contributions to support one of Bettys favorite organizations, the St Jude Childrens Research Hospital.
