Joliet-Betty Lou Appleton, 78, formerly of Herrin died 1:30 P.M., Thursday, October 16, 2003 at her residence in Joliet. Betty Lou was born August 26, 1925 in Herrin to Andy & Lela (Jackson) Gosnell. She married Steven Petryniec in 1944 at Chicago. He preceded her in death in 1980. She later married Leon Appleton on May 14, 1983 in Joliet. Leon survives. Betty Lou was of the Apostolic faith. She worked at Valley Manufacturing as an assembler years ago. She was a homemaker. Survivors Include: Husband: Leon Appleton of Joliet, IL. Daughter & Son In Law: Joann & John Lucas of Carterville, IL. Son In Law: Nelson Van Mere of Herrin Daughter In Law: Jeanie Petryniec of Rolling Meadows, IL. Seven Grandchildren Nine Great Grandchildren Three Sisters: Mildred Nielsen of Herrin Genon Meneese of Herrin Mary Ottolini of Herrin Also survived by several nieces & nephews Preceded in death by her parents, first husband, daughter, Brenda Van Mere and son Steven Petryniec. Funeral services will be 1:30 P.M., Monday, October 20, 2003 at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home with Rev. Don Colson officiating. Burial will follow at East Lawn Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Sunday from 6:00 to 9:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association.
