Betty Lou Hudgens

Betty Lou Hudgens, 82, passed away on Tuesday, May 27, 2014 at 4:05 am at her home in Marion. 

Betty was born March 6, 1932 in Plumfield, Illinois the daughter of George W. and Hope (Hewlett) Hubbard.  She married Sam Hudgens on August 10, 1951 in Marion and together they have blessed to share over 62 years of marriage. 

She worked as a Kindergarten teacher’s aide and as a nursing home aide while living in Findlay and Tuscola.  Betty volunteered at Heartland Regional Medical Center and was very active in her church, Marion Third Baptist, where she is a member.   In addition to her husband she is survived by; Two children;   Ric Hudgens and wife Helen of Evanston   Jolene McClellan and husband Mike of Nekoosa, Wisconsin Five grandchildren;   Kayla Reigel and husband Andy of Fort Atkinson, Wisconsin   Ben McClellan and wife Emily of Danville   Nakita VanKirk and husband Chris of Greenville, South Carolina   Rachel Hudgens of Evanston   Samuel Hudgens of Evanston Ten great grandchildren;   Elise, Evan, Lucan, Hailey, Caitlin, Alexis, Zoe, Megan, Jesse, Tristan Brother – Bill Hubbard and wife Barbara of Lake City, Florida Four sisters;   Virginia Lenich and husband Willie of Mendota   Melba Maddox and husband Burt of West Frankfort   Alice Peters and husband Alfred of Edinburg, Texas   Tickie Wooters and husband Gene of Findlay Several nieces and nephews  Preceded in death by her Parents, two brothers – Frank Hubbard, Ed Hubbard and four sisters – Delores Mayer, Mary Hampton, Shelby Sanders and Emma Beaver.  Funeral services will be Saturday, May 31, 2014 at 3 pm at Marion Third Baptist Church with Rev. Scott Kallem officiating. Burial will follow in Fountain Cemetery.  Visitation will be Friday evening from 5 – 8 pm at Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home.  For those who prefer memorials may be made to Fountain Cemetery.  Envelopes will be available and accepted at Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home, 800 North Market Street, Marion, Illinois  62959.
