Carterville- Betty Lou Jarvis, age 82, of Carterville, passed away at 11:03am on Thursday, July 21, 2016 at Carbondale Memorial Hospital.
Betty was born in Johnston City on October 16, 1933, the daughter of John and Estella (Mathis) Oliver. She married Robert “Bob” Jarvis in Johnston City on July 3, 1952. Together, they have shared sixty-four years of marriage.
Mrs. Jarvis was a member of the West Monroe Apostolic Church in Herrin. She retired from GMAC after thirty-two years as the accounting manager.
Betty was a great wife, mother, and grandmother. Everyone that knew her, loved her. She loved her God, her church, and her family. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren were the light of her life.

Four Grandchildren- Ryan and Stacy George of Barberton, OH

Andrew and Shayla Bevis of Atlanta, GA
Three Great Grandsons- Braxton and Asher George

Several Nieces and Nephews
She was preceded in death by her parents, son- Brent Jarvis, two brothers- John and Earnest Oliver, and two sisters- Freida Travis and Bessie Grimm.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00pm on Saturday, July 23, 2016 at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin with Rev. Tom Bevis officiating. Visitation will be held from 11:00am until 1:00pm on Saturday at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Oakland Cemetery in Carbondale.
A special “Going Home” service, to celebrate Betty’s life, will also be held at 7:00pm on Monday, July 25, 2016 at West Monroe Apostolic Church in Herrin.
