BETTY THOMPSON HERRIN-Betty Thompson, 75, died 2:20 A.M., Friday, September 13, 2002 at Herrin Hospital. Betty was born November 30, 1926 in Herrin to Harry & Jennie (Hewlett) Robinson. She married Harry Thompson on November 29, 1947 in Holly Springs, Mississippi. Harry preceded her in death on June 23, 1995. Betty was retired, having worked at the Illinois E.P.A. office in Marion as a secretary. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Herrin. She enjoyed playing golf and working in her yard. Survivors include: Son & Daughter In Law: Chris & Carol Thompson of Kennewick, WA. Two Grandsons: Robert Thompson, Lieutenant Commander, USN & wife April of Jacksonville, FL. Ryan Thompson of Richland, WA. Two Great Grandsons: Connor & Kyle Thompson of Jacksonville, FL. Three Sisters: Pauline Parish of Herrin Ruby Restivo of Herrin Peggy Gower of Johnston City Two Sister In Laws: Mamie Coffey & husband Lyndell of Crainville, IL. Wanda & husband Bill Taylor of Fairfield, CA. Also survived by several nieces & nephews She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one grandson, Eric Thompson, two brothers, Leslie "Tick" and Jimmy Robinson and one sister, Helen Gibbens. Funeral services will be 10:00 A.M., Monday, September 16, 2002 at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home with Rev. Paul Tirey & Rev. Maurice Swinford officiating. Burial will follow at Herrin City Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the Herrin First Baptist Church or to American Cancer Society.
