Beulah Odum Rushing

Herrin- Beulah Odum Rushing, 90, of Herrin, died at, 8:15 PM, Monday, January 26, 2004 at Shawnee Christian Nursing Center in Herrin. Beulah was born on February 23, 1913 in Creal Springs, IL to Simon Oscar & Rena (Hart) White. She married Coy F. Odum on November 30, 1931 in Creal Springs. He preceded her in death on May 17, 1969. She married Carl Rushing on July 27, 1970 in Fairfield, IL and he preceded her in death on August 11, 1985. Mrs. Rushing worked at a manager and retail clerk at Zwicks Ladies Store in Herrin and Julius in Herrin until her retirement. She formerly worked for fourteen years with the Remnant House. She was a fifty plus year member of the Herrin First Baptist Church and a former volunteer with the Herrin Hospital Auxiliary. She was also a member of the Retail Clerks Union, the Herrin Senior Citizens, and AARP. SURVIVORS: Son & dtr in law- Bob & Carolyn Odum- Herrin Son & dtr in law- Jerry & Nancy Odum- Lebanon, PA Five Grandchildren & their spouses: Michael & Connie Odum- Herrin Suzanne & Sandy Femiano- Ft. Pierce, FL Mark Odum- New Baden Sheryl & Robert Laughlin- Branch Burg, NJ Jason Odum- Las Vegas Three Great Grandchildren: Julie Laughlin- New York City, NY Lindsay Laughlin- NJ Matthew Laughlin- NJ Sister- Elsie Travelstead & husband Alex- Creal Springs, IL Sister- Lou Dean Bennett- Marion, IL Several Nieces & Nephews She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, one son; Donald Wayne Odum, two grandchildren, two sisters; Georgia Brim & Vivian Vaughn & two brothers; Delos White & Cecil White. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, January 31, 2004 at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin. Rev. Paul E. Tirey will officiate. Burial will follow at Herrin City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6-9:00 PM, Friday, January 30, 2004 at the funeral home. Memorial donations are suggested to Herrin First Baptist Church and will be accepted at the funeral home.
