Bill Brown

Herrin- William H. “Bill” Brown, 71, of Herrin, passed away at 4:57 AM, Monday, September 2, 2019 at Herrin Hospital. 

Bill was born on March 19, 1948 in Marion to Billy Bud and Lillian Eileen (Palmer) Brown.  He was raised by his step father- Lester “Don” Grimes. 

He graduated from VTI drafting school, but began a career in sales at Ron Ward Chevrolet and worked there several years before beginning his own business- “Odor Control Services”.  He provided commercial air freshening services to area business.

He was Baptist and a former member of the Herrin Jaycees and volunteer little league coach.  He was a personable man who enjoyed a good debate.  He was charming, personable and could “sell ice to an Eskimo”.  He was a member of a Poker group at the VFW for 30 years and enjoyed playing Bingo, softball and kittenball when he was able.  Earlier this year he accepted Christ as his Savior.  He was excited to share his experience with others.  Today he is walking pain free with his Lord.

Survivors include-

Daughter- Shannon Hohlbauch of Fairfield

Son- William Matthew “Matt” Brown of Shorewood

Daughter- Monica Morgan of Herrin

6 Grandchildren- Brooke, Sarah, Gracie, Hannah, Collin and Gavin

2 great grandchildren on the way

4 sisters- Nancy Sims, Donna Boles, Debbie Doyle and Linda Tucker

Brother- Steven Brown

Several nieces, nephews and cousins

He was preceded in death by his father, parents- Lester and Lillian Grimes and infant daughter- Trudy Brown.

The funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, September 7, 2019 at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin.  Rev. Matthew B. Crain will officiate.  Visitation will be from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM, Friday, September 6, 2019 at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin.  Inurnment will follow at a later date in Maplewood Cemetery in Marion.
