Herrin- William S. Billy Mason, 38, of Herrin, died at 10:52 PM, Tuesday, April 29, 2008 at St. Louis University Hospital. Billy was born on July 11, 1969 in Herrin to William L. & Bonnie (Hewlett) Mason. Billy was a graduate of Herrin High School and attained degrees and certificates from John A. Logan & Vocation Technical Institute. Billy was a skilled mechanic and was a member of the Heat & Frost Insulators Local #1 of St. Louis, MO. Billy was a social person. He enjoyed the thrill of motorcycle riding, the times spent out at the lake tubing and skiing behind his boat and spending genuine moments with his many friends and close family members. He liked bowling and following the Salukis, Chiefs, and the Cardinals. He was a member of the Heat & Frost Insulators Union #1 and a former member of the Herrin Elks and of protestant faith. Survivors include- Mother & step father- Bonnie & Andy Shoemake of Herrin Grandmother- Marie Mason of Herrin Uncle- Roger Mason & wife Kathy of Energy Uncle- Phillip Hewlett & wife Terrie of West Frankfort Several Cousins Faithful dog- Maddie He was preceded in death by his father on November 29, 2007, his grandparents and his uncle- Tom Hewlett. The funeral service will be at 1:00 PM, Saturday, May 3, 2008 at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin. Rev. Michael Neubert will officiate. Burial will follow at Herrin City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-9:00 PM, Friday, May 2, 2008 at the funeral home. Memorial donations are suggested to Mid America Transplant Services and the Marion Regional Humane Society and will be accepted at the funeral home/ 201. S. 13th/ Herrin, IL 62948.
