Herrin- Billy White, 76, of Herrin, passed away at 4:20 AM, Tuesday, April 19, 2016 at his daughter’s home in Carterville.
Billy was born on October 28, 1939 in Williamson, WV to Lovice White. He courageously enlisted into the US Army during the Korean Conflict. Once honorably discharged, he returned home and began a long career as a machinist for various companies from Chicago to southern Illinois.
He enjoyed spending time outdoors with his close friends and family telling stories and catching up. He was an avid fisherman and fished often at various area lakes and ponds.
Survivors include-
Daughter- Lovice Skinner and friend Kevin Galloway of Carterville
Grandchild- Daniel White and wife Kristen of Clarksville, TN
Grandchild- Travis Skinner of Carterville
Great Grandchild- Mason White of Clarksville, TN
Brother- Cledith Blevins of Dunlow, WV
He was preceded in death by his mother, wife and sister- Eva Blevins.
A graveside funeral service was held at 11:00AM, Thursday, April 21, 2016 at Herrin City Cemetery in Herrin, following an intimate family gathering at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home. Monsignor Ken Schaefer officiated the service. Military rites were performed at the graveside by the Herrin VFW and American Legion Posts. Funeral arrangements were made at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin.
