Herrin - Blanche Artis, 90, died at 4:55 p.m on Wednesday, October 10, 2001 at Shawnee Christian Nursing Center in Herrin.
Mrs. Artis was born March l8, 1911 in Nelson, KY to Clarence and Lucinda (Miller) Simpson.
She married James Artis on May 2, 1928 in Murphysboro, IL. He died November l0, l977.
She worked for Sangamo Electric in the Ordill area. She was a member of the First Pentecostal Church in Herrin. She enjoyed quilting and going to church. She was a loving mother who worked hard to raise her one son and seven daughters.

Her parents, husband, sister, Pauline McPheron, three brothers, Russell, Norva and Duncan Simpson and one grandson, Kenneth Artis preceded her in death.
Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 13, 2001 at Johnson Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin. Revs Michael Tetmeyer, Bill Elliott, and B. J. Elliott will officiate. Visitation will be Friday from 6 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be at Herrin City Cemetery.
