Herrin-Robert Dean Bob Anderson, 76, beloved father and devoted husband passed away at 11:40 P.M., Tuesday September 2, 2003 at Herrin Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer.
Bob was born October 22, 1926 in Ferges to George & Georgia (Branch) Anderson. He married Helen Houghlan on March 6, 1949 in Little Rock, Arkansas. She preceded him in death on June 9, 2003.
Bob was the pillar of his family and idolized by his daughters and wife. His warm smile and friendship will be deeply missed by his many friends and family throughout Southern Illinois.
Bob was a devoted hardworking coal miner for over 40 years of his life. Along with his wife Helen. The Anderson owned and operated the Zeigler Colonial Manor for almost 30 years until their retirement.
After attending Herrin High School, Bob served his country with pride during WW II and again during the Korean Conflict. He was a proud member of the VFW in Herrin. Bob also spent many enjoyable days at the Pigeon Inn Club where he was an active member. He was a member of the Herrin First Christian Church. He also loved to fish and garden with his wife, Helen..

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, sister Maxine Russell and brother Jack Anderson.
Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M., Friday, September 5, 2003 at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home with Rev. James Keller officiating. Burial will follow at Herrin City Cemetery. Military graveside rites will be conducted by Herrin American Legion & VFW Post.
Visitation will be Thursday from 6:00 to 9:00 P.M. at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to Dr. G. Spector ear, nose, throat research fund at Barnes-Jewish Hospital Project #5032 and will be accepted at the Funeral Home.
