Bob Hardcastle

February 26, 1930 — July 31, 2014

Bob Hardcastle, 84, of the Lake of Egypt, formerly of Herrin, passed away at 12:25 pm on Thursday, July 31, 2014. Bobby was born February 26, 1930 in Herrin the son of Ben and Nan (Nash) Hardcastle.  He married Barbara Jo Fox-Grindle on April 28, 1968 and together they have shared over 46 years of marriage. Bob was an Army veteran, proudly answering the call to service his country during the Korean War.   He formerly owned the ice plant in Herrin, worked at TVA (Tennessee Valley Authority), Odum Concrete, Herrin Security Bank, together with Barbara they owned Hardcastle’s Aquarium and  he retired  from the Post Office in Herrin.  Following his retirement Bob worked with the Lake of Egypt Boat Patrol.  He was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church, Herrin V.F.W. and when younger was very active in the Herrin JC’s and he formerly served as the Herrin City Treasurer. Survivors include his; Wife – Barbara Hardcastle of Lake of Egypt Daughter – Angelynn Rothluebbers and husband Bob of St. Louis, Missouri Daughter – Lori Jo Crane and husband Derrick of Lincoln Son – Ian Hardcastle of St. Louis, Missouri Seven grandchildren; Michelle Simmons of Herrin Amber Meier of Edwardsville Garrett Meier of Columbia, Missouri Logan Meier of Columbia, Missouri Jason Rothleubbers and wife Stella of Redondo Beach, California Jennifer Stuart of Freeburg Katie Rothleubbers of Venedy Seven great grandchildren; Harley & Rayce Crawshaw Jake & Payton Rothleubbers Dominic Sutton Tanner & Cody Stuart Two sisters; Loretta Reagan and husband Chuck of Herrin Pat Sowman of Herrin Sister-in-law – Pat Hardcastle-Schleuter Several nieces and nephews Preceded by his Parents, Son – Robbie Hardcastle, Brothers – Ray, Bill, Lemone, Charles and Ben Hardcastle and Sisters – Maxine Hoppe, Olga Sturm, Edwina Hardcastle. Funeral Mass will be Monday, August 4, 2014 at 11 am at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church in Herrin with Monsignor Ken Schaefer officiating.  Visitation will be from 9 am – 11 am on Monday at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home.  Inurnment will be in San Carlo Cemetery. For those who prefer memorials may be made to the Marion Ministerial Alliance or Herrin Community Food Pantry.  Envelopes will be available and accepted at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home, 201 South 13th Street, Herrin, IL  62948.
