Brenda Kay Crofford

Brenda Kay Crofford, age 64, of West Frankfort, Illinois, passed away Tuesday, June 27, 2023 at Herrin Hospital in Herrin, Illinois.

Brenda was born November 21, 1958 in Detroit, Michigan, a daughter of John H. and Barbara Jean (Buckner) Zappa. Brenda lived in many communities growing up as her father and stepfather were in the military. She moved to Southern Illinois around 1970. She attended Marion High School and started her family at a young age. She held several Housekeeping jobs at local business and hotels in the Marion area. She worked at Marion Wal-Mart in the shoe dept. Brenda loved being outdoors, fishing and camping with family and friends. She enjoyed drawing and art as a hobby. She loved her family dearly, spending time with her children, grandchildren and her brothers and sisters.

She is survived by five children, Steven G. Litton of Johnston City, IL, Shannon L. (Toby) Lyon of Harrisburg, IL, Melissa A. Zappa (Robert Weir) of Herrin, IL, Krystal D. (Robert) Clark of Carmi, IL, and Justine L. Doyle (William Genslinger) of Marion, IL; fourteen grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; six siblings, Brian (Oona) Zappa of Eldorado, IL, Angela (John) Poland of Paulton, IL, Bob (Leslie) Zappa of West Frankfort, IL, John Zappa of West Frankfort, IL, Loren R. (Jennifer) Lemasters Jr. of Johnston City, IL, and Dana Lemasters of West Frankfort, IL. She is preceded in death by her parents, John H. Zappa, Barbara Jean Lemasters, and stepfather Loren Ray Lemasters Sr.

Visitation will be Wednesday, July 5th, 2023 from 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM at Mitchell-Hughes funeral home. Burial will be held at a later date.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the St. Jude Children Research Hospital.
