Herrin- James Allen “Bud” Farley, 86 of Herrin, passed away at 8:30 AM, Sunday, January 13, 2019 at his home.
Bud was born on March 7, 1932 in Herrin to Ed and Mabel (Hagler) Farley, Sr. He married Charlotte J. Willis on November 6, 1954 in Herrin. She survives of Herrin.
He was a US Army veteran and served his country bravely during the Korean Conflict. Once honorably discharged, he returned home and began a long career as a coal miner for various area coal mines. He retired from running the drag line for Williamson Coal in Energy. Later he ran the dozer for the City landfill in Herrin. He was a member of the United Mine Workers of America and the American Legion.
He was a hardworking man who enjoyed the outdoors; fishing for Bluegill, hunting deer and birds and travelling with his beloved wife. He was an avid sports fan who followed NASCAR (Bill Elliott), SIU Salukis and all Herrin Sports. He was a member of the Fin and Feather Club and the Crab Orchard Yacht Club. He will be dearly missed by his family and many friends.

Great grandchildren- Gwendolyn and Vivian May
Sister- Jewel Dean Murphy of Johnston City
Several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers- Ed Farley, Jr and Eugene Farley.
The funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM, Wednesday, January 16, 2019 at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin. Pastor Jason McKinnies will officiate. Burial will follow at Egyptian Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 11:00 AM until time of service, Wednesday at the funeral home.
