Carl Edwards, Jr.

Marion Carl Edwards, Jr., 84, passed away on Thursday, June 29, 2006 at home. Carl was born February 23, 1922 in Williamson County the only son of Carl & Hattie Mae (Grenney) Edwards, Sr. He married Vivian L. Newlin on November 7, 1945 in Marion and together they shared over 51 years of marriage until her death on February 6, 1997. Carl was a WWII Army veteran. After Carls return from the service he owned and operated the Edwards Texaco Station at the corner of Court Street and Boulevard for several years before going to work for the State of Illinois as an auditor for the Department of Conservation. He was a member of Marions VFW Post #1301. Survivors include: Two daughters; Sandra Lee of Springfield, IL Joanna Wells and husband Andy of Marion Six Grandchildren; Michael Lee and wife Meredith of Colorado Elizabeth Wilson and husband Rodney of Long Island, NY Michelle Marchand and husband Rob of Houston, TX Gregory Lee of New York Benjamin Wells of Marion Mallory Wells of Marion Nine Great Grandchildren Sister in law Wanda Vodak of Marion Niece Vicki Loyd of Marion Preceded by Parents, Wife -Vivian. Funeral services will be Monday, July 3, 2006 at 2:00 P.M. at Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home in Marion. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery. Military Rites will be performed by Marions VFW Post #1301 and American Legion Post #147. Visitation will be Sunday from 5:00 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home.
