Herrin- CARL ROBERT VANSAGHI, age 67, of Herrin, passed away at 10:55pm on Thursday, October 16, 2008 at Herrin Hospital.
Carl was born in Herrin on July 26, 1941, the son of Charlie Carl and Helen (Brooks) Vansaghi.
Mr. Vansaghi was a 1959 graduate of Herrin High School and attended John A. Logan College and Southern Illinois University. He was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church in Herrin.
Carl was a life member of the American Legion Post 645 in Herrin, where he served as a Past Commander. He was the past 25th District Commander, Past 5th Division Commander, member Am-VETS Post 6- Commander and Finance officer, and member forty/eight with the American Legion. It was during his tenure with the American Legion that the Anna Veterans Home was built. Carl was also a member of the Herrin Knights of Columbus and the Herrin Eagles.
Carl was an avid electric train collector and was a member of the LCCA (Lionel Collectors Club of America), the TCA (Train Collectors Association) and a member of C&ET Railroad Historical Society.
Mr. Vansaghi retired as a building custodian at Southern Illinois University. He also worked as a radio announcer and a bar manager in Southern Illinois.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and his grandparents- Joe and Agnes (Miller) Brooks and Caesar and Louisa (Zoia) Vansaghi, aunt- Mary Vansaghi, Aunt- Rosie Carnaghi and cousin- Louis C. Carnaghi.
The funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM, Tuesday, October 21, 2008 at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin. Monsignor Ken Schaefer and Father Gerry Goumershiener will officiate. Burial will follow at San Carlo Cemetery in Herrin. Visitation will be held from 6-9:00 PM, Monday, October 20, 2008 at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin.
