Carmen Dohanich

Carrier Mills- Carmen Dohanich, 95, of Carrier Mills, died at 12:30 AM, Thursday, July 21, 2011 at Carrier Mills Nursing and Rehab in Carrier Mills, Illinois. She was born March 2, 1916 in Herrin to William G. and Sarah (Sanders) Davis. She married George Dohanich October 4, 1941, in Cape Girardeau, Missouri. He died September 18, 1992. Mrs. Dohanich was a member of the First Baptist Church in Herrin. She was a schoolteacher and legal secretary in Herrin, Illinois and lived most of her long life in Herrin. Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Dr. Jane Goldsmith and Dr. George H. Goldsmith, Jr., of Louisville, Kentucky, and son-in-law Tim Walker of Irvine, California. She leaves four grandchildren: Elizabeth Goldsmith (Palo Alto, California), Laura Goldsmith (Louisville, Kentucky), Andrew Walker (Chicago), and Jon Curry Walker (Elkhart, Indiana). A sister-in-law, Mary Dohanich (Colp), a special niece, Sally Griffin (Johnson City) and many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends also survive. She was preceded in death by her husband, her daughter, Sara E. Walker, her parents, five brothers: Lowell, Robert, James Carroll, Everett, and William Davis, and two sisters: Evoleen Davis, and Genevieve Windisch. In accordance with Mrs. Dohanichs wishes, there will be no services or visitation and burial will be private in Herrin City Cemetery. A memorial service may be announced at a later date. Memorial arrangements were made at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin. Memorial donations are suggested to the First Baptist Church of Herrin, Williamson County Program on Aging, Herrin City Library, or Easter Seals and will be accepted at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home/ 201 S. 13th St/ Herrin, IL 62948.
