Marion- Charles A. Turner, 73, of Marion, died at 1:40 PM, Friday, September 20, 2002 at his home in Marion.
Charles was born on September 14, 1929 in Marion to Freeman C. & Oral Mildred (Gray) Turner. He married Janerva (Jan) Kelley on July 17, 1967 in Shawneetown. She survives of Marion.
Charles was of Baptist faith. He served his country in the Army during the Korean War for six years, eleven months, and twenty-eight days. After the war he spent several years in the Air Force Reserve.
Mr. Turner retired as a coalminer from Freeman #3 mine in 1982. He then worked at Sears in Marion as a service technician until 1994 when he retired completely.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother; Curtis W. Turner.
The memorial service will be held Saturday, September 29, 2002 at 7:00 P.M. at Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home in Marion. Rev. Lloyd Whittaker will officiate. Friends may gather at the funeral home Saturday beginning at 6:00 PM. Mr. Turner?s wishes were that his body be donated to the Southern Illinois University School of Medicine for medical research. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois and will be accepted at the funeral home.
