Marion- Charles C. Abney, 83, of Marion, died at 10:45 P.M. on Wednesday, October 9, 2002 at the Marion Memorial Hospital
Mr. Abney was born on February 27, 1919 in Marion to Jesse & Vida L. (Lackey) Abney. He married Alice A. Moore on March 7, 1942 in Huntsville, AL. She survives of Marion.
Charles was a WWII Army Veteran serving from 1941-1945 in the North Solomon Islands and the Southern Philippines. He was awarded Two Bronze Stars and The Purple Heart. He retired in 1975 after working thirty years as a postal mail carrier. He then worked twelve years before retiring from the State of Illinois Conservation Department in 1988.
Mr. Abney loved the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing and tending to his quarter horses. He was a member of the Third Baptist Church of Marion where he served as a deacon and taught Sunday school for many years.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother; Maurice R. Abney.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, October 12, 2002 at 1:00 P.M. at the Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home with the Dr. Jerry Ford officiating. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery in Marion. Visitation will be held on Friday evening from 5:00 until 8:00 P.M.
