Charlie Garavaglia

Charles Domenick "Charlie" Garavaglia, age 69, of Herrin, Illinois, passed away peacefully at 5:52pm on Saturday, January 8, 2022 at Herrin Hospital, with his loving family at his side.

Charlie was born November 30, 1952 in Herrin, a son of Jim Ross and Lois Mae "Missy" (Gentry) Garavaglia. He married the love of his life, Linda M. Smith on October 16, 1972. Together, they have shared more than 49 years of marriage.

Charlie had worked for the City of Herrin, retiring after 27 years of dedication and service. He took great pride in his bottle and antique collection and loved to go to bottle shows every chance he got. In his younger days, Charlie was an avid hunter. He enjoyed his time fishing with his buddies at the Blue Herron Yacht Club. He also had a love for ice-fishing.

Charles was of the Baptist faith and knew his Lord Jesus.

He is survived by his spouse Linda Garavaglia of Herrin, IL; one son, Chuck and Dana Garavaglia; step-son, Roy Smith, step-daughter Sheila and Ryan Ramsey; six grandchildren, Heath Garavaglia, Kaleb Pierce, Danielle Pierce, Alec and Jayla Smith, Bethanie Smith, and Dalton Kennerly; great granddaughter Kennlyn Smith, and great grandson Remington Smith; sister, Lou Ann and Gary Hamby; and brother, Tracy and Jennifer Garavaglia. He also leaves behind his three best friends, his boston dogs- Luigi, Dom, and Boston and many special friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Jim Joe Garavaglia.

Visitation will be Wednesday, January 12th, 2022 from 10:00 AM - 11:00 AM at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, January 12, 2022 at Johnson Hughes Funeral Home with Rev. Don Colson officiating. Burial will follow at Herrin City Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be directed to Residential Hospice or the Energy First Baptist Church.
