Herrin- Charles J. Eovaldi, 94, of Herrin, died at 5:40 AM, Saturday, February 16, 2002 at Herrin Hospital.
Charles was born on March 31, 1907 in Herrin to Joseph S. & Maria (Ruggerio) Venegoni Eovaldi. He married Celeste D. Coloni on June 5, 1928 in Herrin. She preceded him in death in February 23, 2001.
Mr. Eovaldi attended school at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel in Herrin. He started work as a young man at the Zwick's Stores in Herrin. He was in charge of their window displays for their four stores in Herrin, at Carbondale, and the shoe store in Cape Girardeau, MO.
Charlie was past grand knight as well as fourth degree knight and active pallbearer for the Herrin Knights of Columbus. He was a member for over fifty years. He was a lifetime member of the Herrin American Legion Club and a member of the Herrin chamber of commerce. He was a WWII Army veteran and served for two and a half years. When he was able, Charlie loved to play golf. He was a member of Franklin County and later Crab Orchard Golf Club. Charles was past Grand Marshall for Herrinfesta Italiana. He was active in volunteering for the festa, making signs and furnishing materials until he became in ill in 1999.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, sister; Josie Venegoni Stein, and three bothers; Tony "Bones" Venegoni, William J. Eovaldi, and Angelo J. Eovaldi.
The funeral mass will be held at 10:00 AM, Tuesday, February 19, 2002 at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church. Monsignor Ken Schaefer will officiate. Burial will follow at San Carlo Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6-9:00 PM, Monday February 18, 2002 at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin. A Prayer service will be recited at 6PM, Monday at the funeral home.
