Charles M. Eldridge

Charles M. Eldridge, 87, passed away on Tuesday, May 13, 2008 at 5:40 P.M. at Fountains Nursing Care Center. Charles was born December 29, 1920 the son of Charles R. & Cora (Stearns) Eldridge in Herrin. He married Violet Hellberg on May 4, 1943 in Vermont, Illinois and they have been blessed with 65 years of marriage. Charles retired from the State of Illinois Highway Department. He was a member of Spillertown Baptist Church, teaching Sunday School for many years, a member of CCC. He enjoyed reading and raising show chickens. He is survived by: Wife Violet Eldridge of Marion Two sons; Jerry Eldridge and wife Gail of Marion Don Eldridge and wife Emily of Marion Daughter Sandra Skelcher of Marion Five grandchildren; Stacey Pomatto of Murphysboro, Tennessee Dustin Eldridge and wife Noell of Marion Ben Eldridge of Marion Gretchen Eldridge of LaFollette, Tennessee Elizabeth Skelcher of Bloomington Four great grandchildren Two brothers; Virgil Eldridge of Marion Ray Eldridge of Milwaukee, Wisconsin Preceded by Parents, Two Brothers Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. at Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home with Rev. Kevin McNeely and Rev. Kenny Blumenstock officiating. Burial will follow in Maplewood Cemetery with Rev. Cecil Parrish officiating. Visitation will be Thursday evening from 5:00 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home. For those who prefer memorials may be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois.
