Charles L. Solbrig Jr., age 78, of Marion, Illinois, passed away Thursday, February 23, 2023 at St. Louis University Hospital in Saint Louis, Missouri.
Charles was born November 03, 1944 in Leopold, Indiana, the son of Charles L. and Irene (Luecke) Solbrig Sr. Charles grew up in Perry County, IN and graduated from Oil Township High School in 1962. He attended Oakland City Baptist College. He married Judy M. (Fisher) and together with their daughter, Stephanie, they moved to Bemidji, MN where he worked for the Job Corps. When the Job Corps was closed ,he started working for Forest Products Laboratories at University of Wisconsin in Madison. He and his family moved to Marion in 1973 when he became partner of Marion Ford. Upon leaving Marion Ford, he worked in Auto Sales until his retirement. For his last 20 years, Charles led a happy life with his beloved Barb. He had a passion for playing golf at the Lake of Egypt Country Club, and he was an extremely devoted father, partner, grandfather and brother. He loved his family very much and loved his neighbors and many friends.
He is survived by one daughter, Stephanie A. Solbrig of Carbondale, IL, his Loving Companion, Barbara J. Dauer of Marion, IL and four stepchildren Stephen (Tammy) Schram of Rock Hill, SC, Mindy (Tim) Tennant of Rock Hill, SC, Tina Neibel of Johnston City, IL, and Seth Schram of Goreville, IL; two grandchildren, Anastasia R. Solbrig and Kyrina A. Solbrig;, nine stepgrandchildren Jared Schram, Katy (G.T.) Purcell, Lauren (John) Guetersloh, Emily Tennant, MacKenzie (Tyler) Brandt, Joseph Schram, Hunter (Christian) Dawes, Jadyn Schram, Hadley Schram, Step greatgrandchildren Lyric Schram, Dawson Hill, Griffin Brandt, Rowan Dawes, sister Norma Jean (Marvin) Rogier, nephews Greg Rogier and Marty Rogier, Great nephews Troy, Zach, Trent Rogier, and great niece Abby Rogier. He is preceded in death by his parents, Charles L. and Irene Solbrig Sr. and his stepgrandchild, Stephen Schram, and Great niece Amber Rogier.
Visitation will be Tuesday, February 28th, 2023 from 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM at Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home, and on Wednesday morning from 10:00 AM until service time. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, March 1, 2023, 11:00 AM at Mitchell Hughes Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Pleasant Grove Memorial Park in Murphysboro.
