Charles "Tom" Bird

Herrin- CHARLES T. TOM BIRD, age 70, of Herrin, passed away at 9:40pm on Saturday, July 23, 2011 at his home in Herrin. Charles was born in West Frankfort on August 29, 1940, the son of Wylie and Jean (Robinson) Bird. He married Ernestine McNeal on August 20, 1959 at the First Baptist Church in Marion. She survives in Herrin. Mr. Bird was a member of the Hurricane Baptist Church in Herrin and the United Mine Workers of America. Charles was a retired coal miner, having worked at Inland Steel and Consolidated Coal Company. Survivors include his wife- Ernestine Bird of Herrin, IL Daughter- Teressa and Marvin Mize of Orient, IL Son- Brett Wayne Bird of Hurst, IL Three Grandchildren- Christina Emery of Orient, IL Courtney Mize of Orient, IL Maressa Mize of Orient, IL Brother- Victor Bird of Herrin, IL Three sisters- Barbara and Larry Marlow of Johnston City, IL Brenda and David Presley of Royalton, IL Linda and Bill Musser of Orange Park, FL Several nieces and nephews He was preceded in death by his parents and two infant brothers. Funeral services will be held at 12:00pm on Wednesday, July 27, 2011 at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin with Rev. Don Colson officiating. Burial will follow at Blairsville Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 10:00am until the time of services on Wednesday at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home.
