Corene Samuel-Kee

Johnston City- CORENE SAMUEL-KEE, age 104, of Johnston City, passed away at 2:18pm on Monday, December 8, 2008 at Westside Care Center in West Frankfort, Illinois. Corene was born in Sebree, Kentucky on November 27, 1904, the daughter of John Henry and Margaret (Ligon) Pearce. She married Robert Richmond Samuel in Johnston City on July 31, 1923. He passed away on August 5, 1941. On August 31, 1959, she married Mose Kee in Johnston City. He preceded her in death August 2, 1978. Mrs. Kee was a member of the Washington Avenue Baptist Church in Johnston City. She was the oldest survivor from the Johnston City High School Class of 1922. Corene was a former school teacher and homemaker. Survivors include one daughter- Sue Douglas of Herrin, IL Son- John M. and Peggy Samuel Daughter-in-law- Betty Samuel of Herrin, IL Nine grandchildren- Jennifer Shakir of Aurora, IL Mary Joyce Samuel of Carterville, IL Brian Dale and Jackie Samuel of Carterville, IL Larry and Millie Cagle of Jacksonville, AR Carolyn and Deon Lamphere of Creal Springs, IL Alana and Mike Moss of Marion, IL Steve Douglas of Herrin, IL Jay Richmond Samuel of Peoria Heights, IL Mike and Sharon Samuel of Yorkville, IL Three Step-Grandchildren- Eva Kay Warhfeldt of Centralia, IL Jim Oliver of Johnston City, IL Brad Buckner of Johnston City, IL Eight Great Grandchildren Eleven Great Great Grandchildren Five Nieces and Nephews Corene was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands, son- Robert Franklin Samuel, daughter- Bonnie Lou Samuel, brother-Marvin Pearce, two sisters- Mable Reber and Leora Bloom, and one infant brother- Cecil Pearce. Funeral services will be held at 11:00am on Friday, December 12, 2008 at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin with Rev. Carl Cottingham officiating. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery in Carterville. Visitation will be held from 5-8pm on Thursday, December 11, 2008 at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home.
