D.C. Edward McRoy

Herrin- D.C. EDWARD McROY, age 80, of Herrin, passed away at 8:47pm on Monday, October 29, 2007 at Bertrand Nursing Center in Bertrand, Missouri. D.C. was born in Murphysboro on March 12, 1927, the son of William and Cecil (Lee) McRoy. He married Mary Ann Williams in Murphysboro on July 2, 1948. Together, they shared fifty-nine years of marriage. She survives in Herrin. D.C. attended school in Murphysboro. He proudly served in the United States Navy during World War II and the Korean War. D.C. worked for Egypt News and later retired from Austin Periodicals, after thirty-four years of service. He was the past commander of the American Legion Post #645 in Herrin and past Quarter-Master of the VFW Post #1567 in Herrin, as well as a member of the Knights of Columbus. Mr. McRoy was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church in Herrin. D.C. leaves behind his: Wife- Mary Ann (Williams) McRoy of Herrin, IL Three Daughters- Deborah and Gene Beltz of Germantown Hill, IL Janet Burns of Herrin, IL Sandra and Jon Schafer of Peoria, IL One son- Shane and Mindy McRoy of Herrin, IL Fifteen Grandchildren- Kristy Jones, Wendy Gardner, Kari Ward, Jennifer Ward, Stephanie Ward, Nicole Ward, Julianna Schafer, & Michael Schafer- all of Peoria, IL Scott Crompton, Robert Burns, Alex McRoy, Dylan McRoy, Hunter McRoy, Tucker McRoy, and Matthew Basler all of Herrin, IL Three Great Grandchildren- Taylor and Hayden Gardner and Preston Jones One sister- Maxine and Bill Daum of Murphysboro, IL One brother- Kenneth McRoy of Murphysboro, IL Three sister-in-laws- Frances McRoy of Murphysboro, IL Carolyn Williams of Murphysboro, IL Jean McRoy of Fort Myers, FL D.C. was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters- Irene Heiple and Mary McRoy; six brothers- Norman, Carl, Delmar, Billie, Homer, and Jackie McRoy; and one grandson- Bryan Beltz. As per his wishes, his body will be cremated. Graveside memorial services will be held at 1:00pm on Thursday, November 1, 2007 at DeSoto Cemetery with Monsignor Ken Schaefer officiating. Military honors will be performed by Herrins VFW Post #1567 and the American Legion Post #645. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin.
