Herrin -Dalton Eugene Cox, 82, went home to be with his Lord at 3:50 A.M., Monday, March 14, 2005 at Heartland Regional Medical Center. He was born May 16, 1922 in Herrin to Wilford & Winnie Jane (Bennett) Cox. He married Omedia Bradshaw on October 11, 1941 in Cape Girardeau, Missouri. Omedia survives. He was retired having worked at as rural route carrier for the United States Postal service for 35 years. He also worked for the railroad for 24 years and Olin Corporation for 10 years. In his spare time he enjoyed farming. He was a member of the Nazarene Church in Royalton but had been attending Harvest Time Worship Center when he and Omedias health began to fail. He was a veteran of the United States Marine Corp. serving his country proudly during WW II. Survivors include: Wife of 63 years: Omedia Cox of Herrin Daughter & Son In Law: Judy & Irvin Shad Shadowens of Zeigler Two Sons & Daughter In Laws: Reaborn & Kathy Cox of Pueblo West, CO. Carl Pog & Gloria Cox of Herrin Special Nephew & wife: Bobby & Jeanne Dial of Lakeland, FL. Grandchildren & Spouses: Darla & Chris Hewlett of Plainfield, IN. Greg & Angie Olkoski of Goreville, IL Jeff & Beckie Olkoski of Royalton J.K. & Suzan Olkoski of Herrin Brent & Toni Cox of Swink, CO. Shawn & Amanda Cox of Herrin Bryce Cox of Herrin Matt & Kathleen Dial of Clearmont, FL. Laura Dial of Lakeland, FL. Great Grandchildren: Ashlie & Kelsie Olkoski of Royalton Timmy Hewlett of Plainfield, IN. Sarah & Kayla Olkoski of Herrin Shay Olkoski of Goreville Danica Cox of Swink, CO. Chesney Cox of Herrin Hannah & Seth Dial of Clearmont, FL. Sister: Grace Ayers of Herrin Brother & Sister- In-Law: Ed & Loretta Cox of Crossville, TN. Also survived by several nieces & nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, one great grandson, Branden Hewlett, three brothers, Claude, Willie & Vernon Cox; four sisters, Gladys Musgrave, Edith Johnson, Lucille Mathis and Helen Fitch. Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M., Thursday, March 17, 2005 at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home with Rev. Todd Hawk & Rev. David Sorensen officiating. Military graveside services will be conducted by the Herrin American Legion & VFW Posts. Internment will follow at East Lawn Memorial Gardens in Energy. Visitation will be Wednesday evening from 6:00 to 9:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Royalton Nazarene Church and Harvest Time Worship Center.
