Danny Lee Clayton, 75, of Carbondale, passed away at 1:05 am on Friday, October 1, 2021 at Herrin Hospital.

Danny was born January 12, 1946 in Herrin the son of Kenneth Lowell and Barbara Ann (Wade) Clayton.  He married Delores “Faye” Smith on December 27, 1997 in Marion, Illinois, she preceded him in death on January 11, 2021.

Danny was a proud Marine veteran, and he was awarded 2 Purple Hearts. He was a member of the Cottage Home Baptist Church, he enjoyed camping and woodworking. He was a mechanic for Marion Ford and Foley Sweitzer.

Danny is survived by his son, David (Catherine) Clayton; daughters, Kendra (fiancé Tony McCoy) Clayton, Debra (James) Mueller, Andrea Clayton; grandchildren, Marshall Cook, Devinn Clayton, Briana Bean, Kendall Tolliver and Evona Clayton; great grandchildren, one great-great grandchild; brothers, Russell Clayton (Anne) and Rick Clayton (Judy).

Danny was preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth and Barbara Ann Clayton; wife, Delores “Faye” Clayton and grandson, Damon Clayton.

Funeral Services will be held at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home on Thursday, October 7, 2021 at 11 am with Pastor Thomas L. Monroe officiating. Burial will follow at Blairsville Cemetery, Military honors will be provided by Carterville American Legion Post 347, Herrin American Legion Post 645, Herrin VFW Post 1567, and the United States Marine Honor Detail Unit. Visitation will be from 10 am until the time of service at the funeral home.

Due to health concerns related to the COVID-19 virus, social distancing and the wearing of masks will be required.
